REG CHARITY NUMBER 1000792
Celebrating our Ruby Anniversary in 2008, local charity, The Wessex Autistic Society was formed 40 years ago by a group of parents of children with autism in Dorset. The Wessex Autistic Society exists to help people with autism access good education, housing and services that in turn will help them to develop their social and communication skills, become more independent and lead fuller and more productive lives. The Society operates a purpose-built school, Portfield School, for children with autism from the ages of 3-19 on Parley Lane, Christchurch. Having recently completed the building of the facilities with our brand new therapy pool we welcome people to have a tour (call 01202 483360, option 2). The charity also provides respite and sessional care, residential and supported living services, a drop in service for adults with autism, an information and advice line and support groups. 1 in 100 people are affected by autism and that is over 7,000 in Dorset alone. If you would like to know more about Autism Spectrum Disorder, The Wessex Autistic Society or Fundraising contact The Fundraising Team on 01202 483360, fundraising@twas.org.uk.
RUBY TUESDAY CAMPAIGN
The Ruby Tuesday Campaign was launched in January 2008 as a celebration of The Wessex Autistic Society’s 40th and hence ruby anniversary.
Why Tuesday? As the 40th anniversary of our registration as a charity and of our constitution fall on a Tuesday this year.
Local businesses, schools, groups and individuals are joining the campaign by choosing one Tuesday in 2008 to do something ‘Ruby Red’ for the day, whether it be wearing something ‘Ruby Red’, or by holding a ‘Ruby’ event.
To help support the campaign people are encouraged to donate a percentage of their earnings for their chosen Tuesday to the Society or help fill a Ruby Tuesday Campaign collection tin.
So join in and pick any Tuesday in 2008 and get your colleagues, friends, family & schoolmates to do something ‘Ruby Red’ for the day.
1 in 100 people have autism and they are in need of our help and support.

We can provide businesses, schools, groups and individuals with a fundraising pack which includes Ruby Tuesday stickers, sponsorship forms, a collection tin, ideas & fact sheet and a certificate for your wall. We can also send one of our team to support your day with an informative talk.
We are hoping this campaign will raise awareness and funds throughout the Wessex region for autism. Autism isn’t a condition that is well known or publicised, so we have the difficulty of making people firstly aware of the difficulties of having autism and then understanding this so that they may be generous enough to give their time or funds to help the cause.
We also hope this will raise your business’ profile by helping our local charity as we will feature each Ruby Tuesday in our newsletter and also set up regular press releases and photo opportunities with local media. We plan to have a photo call in July with all those who have taken part so far in the Campaign.
